11-YEAR-OLD BOY LOSES HIS LEFT EYE IN AN ATTEMPT TO SAVE HIS ASTHMATIC SISTER.

Elijah Daniel Emenka, 11 yrs. Old, attends Qua Iboe Church Academy, Ataobong. He is in JSS1.

February 2019, Elijah was alone with his sister when she started struggling to breathe, this left him helpless.

He hurriedly searched for her inhaler but couldn’t find it, so rushed to a nearby shop and bought her balm. He came back and administered the balm on her but she was still having difficulty to breathe and was struggling as Elijah held her.

While struggling, they broke the mirror that was by the bed and a piece of it cut Elijah’s eye. This didn’t make him leave his sister despite the injury; he held his left eye with one hand and was still struggling to hold his sister with the other hand by this time he had started shouting for help.

Fortunately, their parent returned and took him to the hospital. Till date Elijah cannot see clearly with his left eye.
