14 YEARS OLD FAVOUR TRAINS CHILDREN IN IMPOVERISHED COMMUNITY FOR FREE

14 year old Favour Sunday understands that education has the power to transform societies in a single generation, and if children in her community could have access to early childhood education this could be solid educational foundation to build on, irrespective of their background or community. Favour decide within herself to positively transform lives in her community by dedicating her time and passion for teaching to educate children in her community.

Favour is an indigene of Ebonyi State, she is the 4th of 5 children in her family, she is lives with her parents in Ottumara Ilaje Community, a slum community in Costain Ebutemetta, Lagos State, where she was born and bred. Her father is a motorcyclist, and her mother is a vegetable trader in the market. She is a JSS 2 student of Ijero Junior High School, a government secondary school in her community. She is an outstanding student who has maintained academic excellence by toping her class since her primary education by maintaining 1st position all the way.

Favour started teaching at the age of 10 years old when she was in Primary school. According to Favour, her drive for teaching comes from her passion to make positive impact in her community, from her observation, many of the children in her community are not privileged to acquire early childhood education because their parents cannot afford it which makes a lot of these children to eventually struggle academically in elementary school because of the absence of early childhood education.

In her free time after school when she doesn’t go to sell vegetables in the market, also during the summer holiday she takes it as duty to teach as well. She gathers children in her neighborhood within the ages of 2-9 years old and teaches them using materials/ textbooks which she sources from teachers in the community. She teaches the children on Numeracy, Literacy and Nursery rhymes. Over the years most of her student who move to primary school at the age of 6 years old are able to compete with children who passed through a proper Nursery class.

Teaching is more than just a hobby to Favour, she intends to build a career in the teaching profession by becoming a university lecturer in future.
