Mary Timbee
In a remote village in Benue, 15 year old Mary Tembe, a child with a burning zeal to be educated was given off for marriage at the age of 14 years by her mother who believed it was right to give off her young daughter for marriage since she had the same experience and it was a culture in the community. Young Mary fought her mother hard and was adamant and reported to her uncle who intervened and tried to talk her out of it. However, her mother refused, saying it was a culture in the community and the IDP camp where she lived and went on to give her out in marriage. Experiencing a new life in her husband’s house, little Mary could not endure and decided to run away. She went straight to report her predicament to doctors, often called Doctors without borders who worked at the Ukpam IDP camp.

Kundushima Kwana
In the breezing old afternoon, a 15 year old now 17 Kundushima Kwana was jolted from his rest by the screams of women and children. It was May 2022, and the usual quiet of his village in Logo local government area, Benue State, was shattered by screams and the panicked scramble of fleeing footsteps. His peaceful community was under attack by herders.
With herdsmen shooting sporadically and people running to safety, 15 year old now 17 Kundushima immediately sprung into action, helping the vulnerable, especially children, and women escape.
