The Price of Freedom

In the breezing old afternoon, a 15 year old now 17 Kundushima Kwana was jolted from his rest by the screams of women and children. It was May 2022, and the usual quiet of his village in Logo local government area, Benue State, was shattered by screams and the panicked scramble of fleeing footsteps. His peaceful community was under attack by herders.
With herdsmen shooting sporadically and people running to safety, 15 year old now 17 Kundushima immediately sprung into action, helping the vulnerable, especially children, and women escape.
In a bid to protect them and allow them to run far away from the village, Kundushima stayed back to hold off the herdsmen who were three in number. At the tender age of 15, he fought these three herdsmen, beating them almost a pulp. Realizing an opportunity to escape, he ran for safety. However, he got chased down by these herders as they had more speed and got caught up. The herders tried to kill him right there on the spot but the courageous Kundushima still put off a fight with them. However, in the process, one of the herders used his cutlass to cut off his left arm. Exhausted and realizing his strength had started to fail, he ran for his dear life to a neighboring community.
Kundushima despite his inability to help his aunt who was elderly escape the attack and was killed in the process remained undeterred in ensuring to protect other people. His act of bravery at the tender age of 15 showcased his selflessness to protect and strong will to be a survivor.
